by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 52.75

ततो च ते राजदूता महामात्रा यशस्विनो ।
क्षिप्रं पन्थं विशोधेन्सुः स्वयं राजा इहेष्यति ॥ ७५ ॥

tato ca te rājadūtā mahāmātrā yaśasvino |
kṣipraṃ panthaṃ viśodhensuḥ svayaṃ rājā iheṣyati || 75 ||

And the royal servants of high rank and renown quickly cleared the way, saying, “The king himself is coming this way.” (75)
