I wish to acknowledge efforts of all professors, scholars and family members whose comments, suggestions, co-operations and best wishes have made this research successful. My guide Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Associate Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies, Saurashtra University, Rajkot obviously becomes the first person to receive my heartfelt thanks for infusing me with ideas as well as planning out the research.

I am deeply indebted to Dr. K.H. Mehta, Professor and Head of the Department of English and CLS, who has played a significant role in my academic development since 1997. He was also my guide for my M.Phil. Dr. J.K. Dodiya, Dr R.B. Zala and all other faculty members of the Department have always encouraged my efforts and motivated me. Co-operation extended by the administrative staff members of the Department namely Mr. Atul Mehta and Mr. Rajesh Bhatti since the time of my post graduation studies have made my procedural and documental works easy. Credit of this research work also goes to my teacher Dr. A.K.Singh, former Professor and Head of the Department and currently with the School of Translation Studies and Training, IGNOU, Delhi. Dr Singh’s teaching played a pivotal role in creating interest in higher studies as well as research.

Unswerving support of Dr. Harin Majithia, Head of the Department of English of Gurukul Mahila College, Porbandar since my undergraduate studies has motivated me. In the present thesis all my translated stories have been studied by her and her constructive suggestions have been incorporated in the thesis.

I feel pleasure to acknowledge the assistance of the sons as well as grandson of Jhaverchand Meghani namely Shree Mahendra Meghani, Shree Gopal Meghani (Lokmilap Trust Bhavnagar), Shree Jayant Meghani (Prasar Publications, Bhavnagar), and Late Shree Vinod Meghani. I am fortunate to have got the guidance of Professor Narottam Palan, renowned Gujarati writer and scholar. All these eminent people have provided and suggested me material for my reference work and assisted in removing my textual confusions while translating stories.

I feel proud of my son Param, all of six years old but without whose innocent enthusiasm I would not have imagined the completion of this thesis. I believe he truly impersonates ‗Child is the Father of Man‘dictum. The credit of this thesis also goes to my husband Pranav for his tough comments accompanied with his gentle support. This thesis would not have been completed without his painstaking efforts in formatting the pages of the thesis. My deepest reverence goes to my mother Late Kapilaben for inculcating in me the spirit of curiosity and enthusiasm and my father Kishorbhai Sata who has always remained my source of knowledge and inspiration. I am thankful to all my parental family members for their continuing best wishes. My head bows down with deepest gratitude to my parents‘in-law Smt.
