The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

कनकव्यतिरेकेण केयूरं येन भावितम् ।
केयूरमेव तत्तस्य न तस्य कनकं हि तत् ॥ ५ ॥

kanakavyatirekeṇa keyūraṃ yena bhāvitam |
keyūrameva tattasya na tasya kanakaṃ hi tat || 5 ||

He who looks at the jewel without looking into the gold whereof it is made, is deluded by the finery of the jewellery, without knowing the value of the precious metal of which it is made.
