कदाचिदष्टौ वर्षाणि दश द्वादश वापि च ।
कदाचित्पञ्चसप्तादि कदाचित्षोडशापि च ॥ १८ ॥

kadācidaṣṭau varṣāṇi daśa dvādaśa vāpi ca |
kadācitpañcasaptādi kadācitṣoḍaśāpi ca || 18 ||

Sometimes he sat penitent for eight years, and all others for a dozen of years, often times he made his penance for five or seven years, and many times for full sixteen years.
