The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

चिरकालोपरचिता अप्येते सुधियापि च ।
एकशः परमभ्येतुं न शक्ताः सैनिका इव ॥ १९ ॥

cirakāloparacitā apyete sudhiyāpi ca |
ekaśaḥ paramabhyetuṃ na śaktāḥ sainikā iva || 19 ||

Though the adept may be long inured in the practice of these virtues; yet none of them will help him singly to approach to the Supreme; as no single soldier or regiment can dare advance before the adverse host.
