The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 5.46.21

तत्रापश्यदसौ सर्वं विषण्णवदनं जनम् ।
जालं कुङ्कुमपुष्पाणां भुक्तमूलमिवाखुना ॥ २१ ॥

tatrāpaśyadasau sarvaṃ viṣaṇṇavadanaṃ janam |
jālaṃ kuṅkumapuṣpāṇāṃ bhuktamūlamivākhunā || 21 ||

He beheld all persons there sitting in a melancholy mood, with their downcast looks and drooping heads; like the bending tops of plants, eaten up at the root by mice and rats.
