The English translation of the Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu verse 2.4.229; a medieval era Sanskrit book, written by Rupa Goswami (fl. 15th century) which represents a devotional (bhakti) masterpiece. In this work Goswami describes the nature and different forms of pure love (rasa) as well as various other topics on Vaishnavism and devotion.

tatra aprāṇini, yathā —
chāyā na yasya sakṛd apy upasevitābhūt
kṛṣṇena hanta mama tasya dhig astu janma |
mā tvaṃ kadamba vidhuro bhava kāliyāhiṃ
mṛdnan kariṣyati hariś caritārthatāṃ te
||2.4.229||
atra nirvedasya |

Self-depreciation in trees:
“My life is useless because Kṛṣṇa has not enjoyed the shade of my branches even once.” “O kadamba tree, do not lament! You will attain success in life when Kṛṣṇa jumps from your branches to punish Kāliya!”
