Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. आददानस्य शस्त्रं हि क्षत्रधर्मं परीप्सतः ।
निधनं ब्राह्मणस्याजौ वरमेवाहुरुत्तमम् ॥ ५१ ॥

ādadānasya śastraṃ hi kṣatradharmaṃ parīpsataḥ |
nidhanaṃ brāhmaṇasyājau varamevāhuruttamam || 51 ||
