Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. वध्वा हासं श्वशुरो यश्च मन्यते वध्वा वसन्नुत यो मानकामः ।
परक्षेत्रे निर्वपति यश्च बीजं स्त्रियं च यः परिवदतेऽतिवेलम् ॥ ५ ॥

vadhvā hāsaṃ śvaśuro yaśca manyate vadhvā vasannuta yo mānakāmaḥ |
parakṣetre nirvapati yaśca bījaṃ striyaṃ ca yaḥ parivadate'tivelam || 5 ||
