Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

दक्षिणे सागरानूपे पञ्च तीर्थानि सन्ति वै ।
पुण्यानि रमणीयानि तानि गच्छत माचिरम् ॥ १७ ॥

dakṣiṇe sāgarānūpe pañca tīrthāni santi vai |
puṇyāni ramaṇīyāni tāni gacchata māciram || 17 ||
