Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

चित्रभानुमनड्वाहं देवं गोष्ठं चतुष्पथम् ।
ब्राह्मणं धार्मिकं चैत्यं ते कुर्वन्ति प्रदक्षिणम् ॥ ११ ॥

citrabhānumanaḍvāhaṃ devaṃ goṣṭhaṃ catuṣpatham |
brāhmaṇaṃ dhārmikaṃ caityaṃ te kurvanti pradakṣiṇam || 11 ||
