yadapyuktaṃ pāpamevāśrayedasmān [Gītā 1.36] iti tatrāha sukhaduḥkhe ityādi | sukhaduḥkhe same kṛtvā | tathā tayoḥ kāraṇabhūtau lābhālābhāvapi | tayorapi kāraṇabhūtāu jayājayāvapi samau kṛtvā | eteṣāṃ samatve kāraṇaṃ harṣaviṣādarāhityam | yujyasva sannadho bhava | sukhādyabhilāsaṃ hitvā svadharmabuddhyā yudhyamānaḥ pāpaṃ na prāpsyasītyarthaḥ ||38||

nanvevaṃ svargamuddiśya yuddhakaraṇe tasya nityatvavyāghātaḥ | rājyamuddiśya yuddhakaraṇe tvarthaśāstratvāddharmaśāstrāpekṣayā daurbalyaṃ syāt | tataśca kāmyasyākaraṇe kutaḥ pāpaṃ dṛṣṭārthasya gurubrāhmaṇādivadhasya kuto dharmatvaṃ, tathā cātha cediti ślokārtho vyāhata iti cettatrāha sukhaduḥkhe iti |

samatākaraṇaṃ rāgadveṣarāhityam | sukhe tatkāraṇe lābhe tatkāraṇe lābhe tatkāraṇe jaye ca rāgamakṛtvā, evaṃ duḥkhe taddhetāvalābhe taddhetāvajaye ca dveṣamakṛtvā tato yuddhāya yujyasva sannadhau bhava | evaṃ sukhakāmanāṃ duḥkhanivṛttikāmanāṃ vihāya svadharmabuddhyā yudhyamāno gurubrāhmaṇādivadhanimittaṃ nityakarmākaraṇanimittaṃ ca pāpaṃ na prāpsyasi | yastu phalakāmanayā karoti sa gurubrāhmaṇādivadhanimittaṃ pāpaṃ prāpnoti yo na karoti sa nityakarmākaraṇanimittam | ataḥ phalakāmanāmantareṇa kurvannubhayavidhamapi pāpaṃ na prāpnotīti prāgeva vyākhyāto'bhiprāyaḥ | hato prāpsyasi svargaṃ

tasmāttava sarvathā yuddhameva dharmastadapi yadimaṃ pāpakāraṇamāśaṅkase, tarhi mattaḥ pāpānutpattiprakāraṃ śikṣitvā yudhyasvetyāha sukhaduḥkhe same kṛtvā | taddheturlābhālābhau rājyalābharājacyūtī api | taddheturjayājayāvapi samau kṛtvā vivekena tulyau vibhāvetyarthaḥ | tataścaivaṃbhūtasāmyalakṣaṇe jñānavatastava pāpaṃ naiva bhavet | yadvakṣyate lipyate na sa pāpena padmapatramivāmbhasā [Gītā 5.10] iti ||38||

nanu atha cettvamityādipadyārtho vyāhṛtaḥ | rājyādyuddeśena kṛtasya yuddhasya guruviprādivināśahetutvena pāpotpādakatvāditi cenmumukṣuvartmanā yuddhamānasya tava tadvināśahetukaṃ pāpaṃ na syādityāha sukheti | sāmyakaraṇamiha tatra tatra nirvikāratvaṃ bodhyam | sukhe taddhetau jaye ca rāgamakṛtvā duḥkhe taddhetāvalābhe taddhetau parājaye ca dveṣamakṛtvā tatra tatra nirvikāracittaḥ san tato yuddhāya yujyasva | kevalasvadharmadhiyā yoddhumudyukto bhavetyarthaḥ | evaṃ mumukṣurītyā yoddhā tvaṃ pāpaṃ tadvināśahetukaṃ nāvāpsyasi | phalecchuḥ san yo yudhyate sa tatpāpaṃ vindati | vijñānārthī tu purātanamanantapāpam
apanudatītyarthaḥ |

nanu phalarāgaṃ vinā duṣkare yuddhadānādau kathaṃ pravṛttiriti cedanantātmānandarāgaṃ tatra pravartakaṃ gṛhāṇa rājyādyanurāgamiva bhṛgupāte ||38||
