Upakram (उपक्रम्).—come near, approach, enter ([accusative] or [locative]); go against, attack; treat, deal with ([accusative]); (mostly [Middle]) undertake, begin, be about to ([accusative], [dative], or [infinitive]).

1) Upakram (उपक्रम्):—[=upa-√kram] [Parasmaipada] -krāmati (rarely -kramati) [Ātmanepada] -kramate, to go near, approach, come to, [Ṛg-veda viii, 1, 4; 21, 2; 81, 7; Mahābhārata; Rāmāyaṇa; Meghadūta];

—to rush upon, attack (only [Parasmaipada] by, [Kāśikā-vṛtti on Pāṇini 1-3, 39 and 42]), [Mahābhārata xiii];

—to approach with any object, have recourse to, set about, undertake, begin (with [accusative] [dative case] or [infinitive mood] only [Ātmanepada] by, [Pāṇini 1-3, 39 & 42]), [Lāṭyāyana; Mahābhārata; Raghuvaṃśa] etc.;

—to treat, attend on (as a physician), [Mahābhārata; Suśruta etc.]
