This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 100.2

एको अत्र आसी ऋषि वत्सगोत्रो वातेहि आबाधेहि कृशो अभूषि ।
हिमवन्तपार्श्वे असहन्तो शीतं वनातो सो ओसरे राजधानीं ॥ २ ॥

eko atra āsī ṛṣi vatsagotro vātehi ābādhehi kṛśo abhūṣi |
himavantapārśve asahanto śītaṃ vanāto so osare rājadhānīṃ || 2 ||

One seer was there who was styled Vatsa. He became ill with flatulence and, unable to endure the cold of the Himalayas, he left the forest and went down to the king’s city. (2)
