This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 27.32

तस्मात् तं परिरक्षेया राजा धर्मेण पार्थिव ।
तं हि राज हितं तुह्यं राष्ट्रस्यापि च तं हितं ॥ ३२ ॥

tasmāt taṃ parirakṣeyā rājā dharmeṇa pārthiva |
taṃ hi rāja hitaṃ tuhyaṃ rāṣṭrasyāpi ca taṃ hitaṃ || 32 ||

“A king should therefore see to it that his acts are just. For, O king, your good is also that of your kingdom. (32)
