This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

अभूच् छास्ता अतीतस्मिं ब्राह्मणो अकुतोभयो ।
प्रहीणजाति ब्राह्मणो ब्रह्मचर्यस्मिं केवली ॥ २५ ॥

abhūc chāstā atītasmiṃ brāhmaṇo akutobhayo |
prahīṇajāti brāhmaṇo brahmacaryasmiṃ kevalī || 25 ||

“Once upon a time there was a Master, a brahman who had nothing to fear, being immune from rebirth, a brahman perfected in the holy life. (25)
