This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 10.20

श्रेष्ठिं वसुन्धरं नाम दरिद्रो इदम् अब्रवीत् ।
इयं सुभाषिता गाथा सर्वस्वेन तु दीयते ॥ २० ॥

śreṣṭhiṃ vasundharaṃ nāma daridro idam abravīt |
iyaṃ subhāṣitā gāthā sarvasvena tu dīyate || 20 ||

A certain poor man said to a merchant named Vasundhara, “This verse of a wise saying will be given you in return for all you possess.” (20)
