The Sanskrit edition of the Yoga-vasistha including English translation and grammatical analysis. The Yogavasistha is a Hindu spiritual text written by Valmiki (who also authored the Ramayana) dealing with the philosophical topics from the Advaita-vedanta school. Chronologically it precedes the Ramayana.

Verse 4.45.12

स्वसंकल्पकृताः सर्वे देवासुरनरादयः ।
स्वसंकल्पोपशमने शाम्यन्त्यस्नेहदीपवत् ॥ १२ ॥

svasaṃkalpakṛtāḥ sarve devāsuranarādayaḥ |
svasaṃkalpopaśamane śāmyantyasnehadīpavat || 12 ||

It is divine will that has brought the gods, the demigods and all mankind into existence; and it is by the cessation of the (creative) will, that they cease to exist as the lamp is extinguished for want of its oil.
