Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

देवाश्च सर्वे राजेन्द्र प्रभासं प्राप्य पुष्कलम् ।
सोमेन सहिता भूत्वा दक्षस्य प्रमुखेऽभवन् ॥ ७१ ॥

devāśca sarve rājendra prabhāsaṃ prāpya puṣkalam |
somena sahitā bhūtvā dakṣasya pramukhe'bhavan || 71 ||
