श्री-नारद उवाच
श्रुत्वा प्रभावती-वाक्यं
यशोदा नन्द-गेहिनी
बालं निर्भर्त्स्य ताम् आह
साम्ना प्रेम-परायना
śrī-nārada uvāca
śrutvā prabhāvatī-vākyaṃ
yaśodā nanda-gehinī
bālaṃ nirbhartsya tām āha
sāmnā prema-parāyanā
śrī-nāradaḥ uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; śrutvā—hearing; prabhāvatī-vākyam—Prabhavati's words; nanda—Nanda's; gehinī—wife; bālam—the boy; nirbhartsya—rebuking; tam—to Him; āha—said; sāmnā—with sweet words; prema-parāyanā—full of love.
English translation of verse 1.17.23:
Śrī Nārada said: After hearing Prabhāvatī's words, Yaśodā, the wife of Nanda, rebuked her son, and with great love gently spoke to Prabhāvatī.
