Gāya (गाय):—1. (von 1. gā) adj. gehend, schreitend oder n. Gang, Bewegung in urugāya (s. d.) und uttamagāya ( [Bhāgavatapurāṇa 4, 12, 21]), welches als Beiname von Viṣṇu wohl = urugāya ist. [BURNOUF] übersetzt: le Dieu dont la gloire est exellente, führt also gāya auf gā singen zurück. gāya in urugāya fasst BURNOUF auf ähnliche Weise auf, z. B. [2, 3, 20] : dont le nom est chanté au loin.
