Source: DDSA: The Molesworth Marathi and English Dictionarycaṭakyāñcē māṇḍava (चटक्यांचे मांडव).—m pl or caṭakyāñcā māṇḍava m sing (caṭakī & māṇḍava) Big, swelling, blustering words of vanity. The phrase arises from a story. A sick woman vowed to the idol to erect a māṇḍava for it if she should recover. She fulfilled her vow by going through the form of planting the posts of a māṇḍava, snapping her fingers from time to time. Hence tulā ca0 ghālāyālā kāya hōtēṃ paṇa jātīnēṃ kāma karāvēṃ hēṃ nirāḷēṃ Said to an idling, dawdling, yet wordy laborer. asē ca0 ghālaṇārē puṣkaḷa aḍhaḷatāta Such swelling professors or glowing talkers are in plenty. caṭakyācā māṇḍava hōta nāhīṃ A building (a great business or work) cannot be accomplished without time and pains.
