This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 53.91

तं पश्यियान पतितं शयमानं मूर्छितं नदीतीरे ।
मुखरतनम् अस्य माता करेण परिमार्जति रुदन्ती ॥ ९१ ॥

taṃ paśyiyāna patitaṃ śayamānaṃ mūrchitaṃ nadītīre |
mukharatanam asya mātā kareṇa parimārjati rudantī || 91 ||

When his mother found him lying insensible where he had fallen on the river-bank, she wept, and caressed his pearly mouth with her hand, saying, (91)
