This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

तस्माद् अलुब्धमेधाविं अमात्यं मनुजाधिप ।
मन्त्रस्यानुयुक्तं कुर्या राष्ट्रस्य परिणायकं ॥ ५६ ॥

tasmād alubdhamedhāviṃ amātyaṃ manujādhipa |
mantrasyānuyuktaṃ kuryā rāṣṭrasya pariṇāyakaṃ || 56 ||

“Therefore, O lord of men, appoint as your minister a man who is not covetous, but is prudent and devoted in counsel, a guide to the realm. (56)
