yadvevāha | nṛṣade veḍapsuṣade veḍityasyaivaitānyagnernāmāni tānyetatprīṇāti tāni haviṣā devatāṃ karoti yasyai vai devatāyai havirgṛhyate sā devatā na sā yasyai na gṛhyate'tho etānevaitadagnīnasminnagnau nāmagrāhaṃ dadhāti

9. And as to why he says, “To the man-seated, vet! To the water-seated, vet!” etc., these are names of this Agni: these names he thereby pleases. By means of the oblation he makes them a deity: for whatever deity the oblation is prepared, that deity (they are), not that deity for whom it is not prepared. And, in calling them by their names, he also thereby places those fires along with this fire.
