The Sanskrit edition of the Apastamba Grihya-sutra with the commentaries of Haradatta (called the Anakula-vritti) and Sudarshana (called the Grihyatatparyadarshana-vyakhya). The Apastamba Grihyasutra is a short treatise on Vedic rituals which, together with the Hiranyakeshin-grihya-sutra, belongs to the Taittiriya School of the Black Yajur-Veda. parvasu bhavaḥ pārvaṇaḥ /
tena pārvaṇena sthālīpākenāte'smātpārvaṇā danyāni karmāṇi vyākhyātāni yānyācārādūgṛhāyante

jñāyante tāni sarvāṇi /
ayamapi kalpātideśaḥ /
yo'yaṃ pārvaṇasya kalpaḥ'evamata ūrdhva'ityādiḥ pūrṇapātrastu dakṣiṇetyeka ityevamantaḥ sa eva sarveṣāṃ pākayajñānāṃ kalpa ityarthaḥ /
tatropavāsaḥ pārṇādanyatra na bhavati /
parvasaṃyogena prakaraṇāntare vidhānāt upoṣitābhyāmityasya cāvidhāyakatvāt /
nanvismin vaivāhke dharmā āmnātāḥ pārvaṇasyāpi tata evātidiṣṭāḥ /
tataścānyeṣāmapi tata evātideśaḥ kartavyaḥ /

'dakṣiṇāvarja''pūrṇapātrastudakṣiṇetyeke'ityasya viśeṣasya parigrahrthastu pārvaṇenātideśaḥ /

tenānārabdhapārvaṇasyāpi kālagame sarpabalyādauprakṛttirbhavati /
ācārādyāni gṛhyanta iti vacanāt asmin śāstre a'nupadiṣṭānāmapi śāstrāntaradṛṣṭānāṃ pakvaguṇakānāmayamupadeśo bhavati /

pārvaṇema vaivāhikena sthālīpākena /
ato'nyāni asmādanyāni sarpabalyādīni yānyācārādūgṛhyantetānikarmāṇi vyākhyātāni teṣvetaddharmātideśa ityarthaḥ //


nanu-kathaṃ pārvaṇaśabdavācyatvaṃ vaivāhikasthālīpākasya?iti cetnityastāvat'upoṣitābhyāṃ varvasu kārya'(āpa.gṛ.7-17) iti parvasu bhavatvāt pārvaṇaḥ /
tasya ca pārvaṇasyāyaṃ prakṛtitve sambandhīti'tasyedam'(pā.sū.4-3-120) iti pārvaṇaśabdādaṇpratyaye kṛte pārvama ityevaṃ rūpaṃ bhavati /
yadyapi karmāntarāṇāmapyayaṃ prakṛtiḥ, tathāpyasya pārvaṇasambadhitayā vyapadeśyatvameva yuktam ;yatho'tra karmaṇi dravyadevatayorapyatideśaḥ /
karmāntareṣu tvitaradharmāṇāmeveti /

nanvevamapi śīghrāvagatasya nityasya pārvaṇasya prakṛtitye sambhavati kimiti vilambitāvagamyasya vaivāhikasya prakṛtitvamucyate ?iti cetna, vaivāhika eva dharmopadeśapauṣkalyāt, itaratra tadabhāvācca /
prasiddhaścaiṣa nyāyaḥ-yasya puṣkalo dharmopadeśasso'nyeṣāṃ prakṛtiḥ;na hi bhikṣuko bhikṣukān yācitumarhatīti /
tasmādyuktaṃ vaivāhikasyaiva prakṛtitvam /

asya ca vaivāhikasya pārvaṇaśabdāvācyatvaṃ dharmasāstre vyaktameva /
'parvasu cobhayorupavāsaḥ /
aupavastameva kālāntare bhojanam /

tṛptiścānnasya /
yaccainayoḥ priyaṃ syāttadetasminnahani bhuñjīyātām /
adhaśca śaryāyātām /
maithunavarjanaṃ ca /
śvobhūte sthālīpākaḥ /
tasyopacāraḥ pārvaṇena vyākhyātaḥ'(āpa.dha.2-1-4....11) iti nityasya pārvaṇena vyākhyānābhidhānāt, parvasambandhinaḥ karmāntarasyātrāsambhavāt, nityasya ca nityenaiva vyākhyāne ātmāśrayadoṣāt /

nanvatra kecit-'yaccainayoḥ priyaṃ syāttadetasminnahami'ityetacchabdenaikavacanāntena'parsu ca'iti bahivacanāntanirdiṣṭaparvāhaḥ parāmarśānupapatteḥ,'pāṇigrahaṇādadhi gṛhamedhinorvratam'(āpa.dha.2-1-1)iti paramaprakṛtaṃ pāṇigrahaṇanakṣatraṃ parāmṛśyate /
tena pratisaṃvatsaraṃ pāṇigrahaṇanakṣatre priyabhojanādi kāryam /
śvobhūte ca sthālīpākaḥ kartavyaḥ /
tasya ca ka4māntarasyopacāraḥ pārvaṇena nityena vyākhyāta ityāhuḥ tatkathaṃ dharmaśāstre vyaketaṃ vaivāhikasya pārvaṇaśabdavācyatvamiti /

tanna;yato'tra vratameva paramaprakṛtam, pāṇigrahaṇasya tu tadavadhitayā kīrtanamātram /
nakṣatraṃ tu gamyamānameva /
gamyamānaṃ caitacchabdena parāmraṣṭuṃ priyabhojanādinā viśeṣayituṃ ca nārham /
tadāhurācāryāḥ

"gamyamānasya cārthasya naiva dṛṣṭaṃ viśeṣaṇam /
śabdāntarairvibhaktyā dhūmo'yaṃ jvalatītivat //"

ataścātra'parvasu ca'ityuddeśyagatabahutvasyāvivakṣitatvāt śrutāvyavahitasya prakṛtasyaparvāhasyaiva parāmarśo viśeṣaṇaṃ ca yuktam /

ataupavāsāderiva priyabhojanāderapi parvasambandhāt'śvobhūte sthālīpākaḥ'ityupavāsādidharmavidhānārthameva /
'upoṣitābhyām parvasu kāryaḥ'iti gṛhyavihitasya sthālīpākasyānuvāda eva, na karmāntarasya vidhiḥ /
anuvāde ca tasyopacāra iti dūrasyasya parāmarśo ghaṭate /
vidhau tvasyopacāra iti syāt /
evaṃ ca yadyapi'śvobhūte sthālīpākaḥ'ityāpātato'nuvādasvarūpaḥ;tathāpi yasyeme vidhīyamānā upavāsapriyabhojanādayo dharmāssambandhinastasyopacāraḥ pārvamena vyākhyāta iti sādhyāhāramevedaṃ sūtraṃ vyākhyeyam /
tasmāddharmaśāstre'pi vaivāhikasya pārvaṇaśabdavyapadeśyasyaiva prakṛtitvam, na nityasyeti siddham /

nanvemapi śīghrabodhakatvāt vaivāhikeneti vaktavye, kimarthamasya vivāhāṅgasyāpi sato vivīhasambandhaṃ tiraskṛtya'pārvaṇena'ityāha ?ucyate-itarāṅgavadasya na śamyāḥ ;kintu śiṣṭācārasiddhāḥ paridhayaevetyevamartham /
atra ca ato'nyānītyāha-etatsadṛśānyevauṣadhapradhānahavīṃṣi sarpabalyādīni karmāṇyanena vyākhyātāni, na tvanena tatsadṛśāni paśuprabhavapradhānahavīṃṣi vapāhomādīnīti vaktum /
kuta etat?

'tatra sāmānyādvikāro gamyeta'(āpa.pa.3-39) iti paribhāṣāvacanāt /

kiñca ato'nyānītyasya nañsamāsaprabhedavigrahavākyatvāt'nañivayuktamanyasadṛśādhikaraṇe tathāhyarthāvagatiḥ'(vai.pa.74) iti nañsamāsabhedārthanirṇayāt, vākyasamāsayorbhinnārthatve cāsamarthasamāsāpatteḥ /
auṣadhāni havīmaṣi paśuprabhavāni ca kāni katidhā ca ?iti

cet-puroḍāśaḥ, odano, yavāgūstaṇḍulāḥ, pṛthukāḥ, lājāḥ, saktavaḥ, puṣṭāni, phalīkaraṇāni, dhānaḥ, karambhāḥ, suretyauṣadhāni dvādaśāvidhāni /

payo, dadhyā, jya, māmikṣā, vājina, bhavadānāni, paśurasa,śśoṇitaṃ, tvak, vapeti, paśuprabhavāni dhaśavidhāni /
'atha karmāṇyācārādyāni gṛhyante'(āpa.gṛ.1-1).iti prakṛte'pyatra punarvacanaṃ gṛhyapraśne'nuktānāṃ mahārājasthālīpāka gaṇahomādīnāmetadvikṛtitvaṃ vaktapam /

nanu-yadyanenaiva sūtreṇa auṣadhahaviṣkeṣu karmasu pārvaṇatantrātideśaḥ, kimartha'astāmite sthālīpākaḥ''pārvaṇavadājyabhāgānte'; (āpa.gṛ.18.5.6) iti sarpabalau punarvacanam ?ucyate-yadyapi śrautaāprayaṇe vaiśvadevādīnāṃ bhūyastvena paurṇamāsatantrāśaṅkāyāṃ aindrāgnasya mukhyatvāt'mukhyaṃ pūrvacodanāllokavat'(jai.sū.12-2-23) iti siddhāntanyāyena'āmāvāsyaṃ tantram'(āpa.śrau.6-29-5) iti darśitam, tathāpyatrānyeṣāṃ haviṣāṃ bahutve'pyauṣadhasya mukhyatvāt pārvaṇatantrataiveti mukhyanyāyaṃ mandabuddhihitārtha darśayitumeva punaścoktaṃ'pārvaṇavadājyabhāgānte'iti /
tena māsiśrāddhe aṣṭakākarmaṇi ca pārvaṇameva tantram /
yadyapyaṣṭakāyāṃ vapāhomasya mukhyasyāpūrvatvaṃ, tathāpyanyeṣāṃ kṛtsnavidhānābhāvādauṣadhatvāt'sviṣṭakṛtprabhṛti samānamāpiṇḍanidhānāt'(āpa.gṛ.22-8) iti darśanācca pārvaṇameva tantram /
apūpahome tu'pārvaṇavat'(āpa.gṛ.22-1) iti punarvacanamapūpamāṃsaudanapiṣṭānnahomānāṃ sthāne anukalpena vihitasyauṣadhahaviṣkasyāpi dadhihomasya pārvaṇatantraprāptiṃ jñāpayitum, na tvapūpahomārtam;tasyauṣadhahaviṣṭvādeva pārvaṇatantraprāpteḥ /
tatsthānāpanneṣu ca taddharmaprāptirdṛṣṭā /
yathā'yasya haviṣevatsā apākṛtā dhayeyustatsthāne vāyavyāṃ yavāgūṃ nirvapet'(āpa.śrau.9-1-23) iti sānnāyyasthāne vihitāyā yavāgvāssānnāyyadharmāḥ //


kecit-nityasya pārvaṇasya yaḥ kalpassa eva sarveṣāṃ yajñānāṃ kalpaḥ /
yadyapi vāvāhikedharmāmnānaṃ, tathāpi nityasyaiva kalpādideso'dakṣiṇāvarja'ityasya parigrahārthaḥ /
ato'nyānīti vacanādetatsadṛśānāṃ pakvaguṇānāmeva sthālīpākānāṃ paśūnāṃ cāyaṃ vikalpo, na tvājyaguṇakānām /
karmāṇīti vacanāt karmamātrasyaiva vyākhyānaṃ, na tu kartṛtaddharmakālādīnām /
tena'gardabhenāvakīrṇī niṛtiṃ pākayajñena yajeta, (āpa.dha.1-26-8) ityatra paśau na patnīvattvam nāpi hṛdayasaṃsargādiṣu parvaṇo niyamaḥ, viśeṣataścopavāsasya dharmaśāstre parvasambandhena vidhānāt /
vyākhyātānīti vacanādanyeṣāṃ naitadvikṛtitvam /
tenānārabdhapārvaṇo'pi teṣvadhikārī /
hṛdayasaṃsargādiṣu punastantravidhānaṃ ājyahomavanniyamārtham /
etadgṛhyopadiṣṭeṣu yatra vacanaṃ tatraiva tantraṃ, nānyatra /
tenāgrayaṇe tantralopa iti tanna;yata upadiṣṭadharmakasya vaivāhikasya dharmātideśe'pi naiva doṣaḥ /
pratyuta nityasya kalpādideśe parvādīnāmapyatideśāddoṣaḥ /
karmāṇīti vacanānneti cet-na;tasyoddeśyasamarpaṇopakṣīṇatvāt /
akhaṇḍagrāhiṇaścodakasyocchṭaṅkhalatvāt /
dakṣiṇābhāvastu prayojanaṃ tasya'yo'syāpacitastasmā ṛṣabhaṃ dadāti'(āpa.gṛ.7-16) iti siddham /
tathā sadṛśeṣvayamatideśa ityuktimātram, asadṛśeṣvapi paśuṣvabhyupagamāt /
pakvatvāt sādṛśye dravyatvādājye'pi syāt /
na caivaṃ vyākhyātaśabdaḥ prakṛtivikṛttvābhāvārthaḥ /
'etena vaiśvasṛjā jyo vyākhyātaḥ (āpa.śrau.19-15-1) ityādau prakṛtivikṛtitvasya dṛṣṭatvāt /
tathā naikasminnāgrayaṇe tantralopaphalārtha niyamārthāni bahūni sūtrāṇyārabdhavyāni /
avikṛtamātithyamāgrayaṇaṃ cecyetāvanmātrasūtrādeva svābhimatasiddheḥ /
atastāni tantrasūtrāṇi yathoktaprayojanārthāni /
