1) m. — a) Lebenshauch. — b) die eigene Person , selbst. — c) Instr. tmanā und Loc. tman (nur am Ende eines Stollens) zu einer Partikel herabgesunken in der Bed. von doch , wirklich , sogar , wenigstens , gewiss , auch sogar , auch. Es legt den Nachdruck auf ein vorangehendes , selten auf ein nachfolgendes Wort. Oefters nach einer Präposition vor dem Verbum , aber auch beim Verbum selbst. Besonders beliebt sind die Verbindungen uta -, -ca (und auch , — gewiss) , iva -, na (gerade wie) und adha - ( und gar , — zwar). —
2) f. tmanī nur im Instr. tmanyā = 1)c).

Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
