Spṛṣṭa (स्पृष्ट).—Name of one of the four internal efforts when the instrument (करण (karaṇa)) of articulation fully touches the sthana or the place of the production of sound in the mouth. Spṛṣṭa (स्पृष्ट, “plosive”) refers to a type of bāhyaprayatna (“external effort”) of articulation (uccāraṇa) according to Indian linguistic tradition (viz., śikṣā, ‘phonetics’, vyakaraṇa, ‘grammar’, nirukta, etymology’ and chandas, ‘prosody’.). Spṛṣṭa (plosive) refers to a sound produced by the sudden release or air after a complete block (for instance, pa, ka).
