Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarŚānān (शानान्).—Krt affix (आन (āna)) substituted for the Atmampada affixes instead of शानच् (śānac), prescribed after the roots पू (pū) and यज् (yaj); the application of शानन् (śānan) for शानच् (śānac) is for the acute accent on the initial vowel of the root; e.g. पवमानः (pavamānaḥ) with the acute accent on the initial 46 vowel as contrasted with विद्यमानः (vidyamānaḥ) with the acute accent on the last vowel; cf. P. III. 2.128.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
