2) m. — a) der Sturmgott , Name des Beherrschers der Marut. Schon in den [BRĀHMAṆA.] wird Rudra zuweilen als eine Form des Agni aufgefasst ; in der Folge wird Śiva mit ihm identificirt. — b) Du. s. bhavārudra und somārudra. — c) Pl. die Söhne Rudra’s , eine best. Schaar von Winden , die Marut ; später werden sie auch als Kinder Kaśyapa’s und der Surabhi gefasst.
