Pratisaṃcaravarṇana (प्रतिसंचरवर्णन) (lit. “description of the dissolution”) is the name of the fourth chapter of the Ahirbudhnyasaṃhitā, a Pāñcarātra work in 60 chapters dealing with topics such as Viṣṇu’s discus-power, the processes of creation and esoteric practices related to Sudarśana (such as mantras and yantras).—Description of the chapter [pratisaṃcaravarṇana]: Nārada asks to know how it is that Sudarśana comes to be the efficient cause of the Universe ( 1-2). Śiva replies that should Sudarśana withdraw his continuously proliferating energies in any way, a chain-reaction starts that will in time [*** a lapse occurs at the point where the length of time calculated for this to take is given ***] cause all things to perish, wither, burn, return to dust, to air, etc., a complete step-by-step reversal of the order of creation (3-66). When the creation has returned to Vāsudeva, there is no energy left over, for it is all concentrated and potentialised once again in Him (67-78).
