1) To set or put down, place, throw down; शिखरिषु पदं न्यस्य (śikhariṣu padaṃ nyasya) Meghadūta 13; दृष्टिपूतं न्यसेत् पादम् (dṛṣṭipūtaṃ nyaset pādam) Manusmṛti 6.46.
2) To lay or throw aside, abandon, give up, resign, relinquish; स न्यस्तचिह्नामपि राजलक्ष्मीम् (sa nyastacihnāmapi rājalakṣmīm) R.2.7; न्यस्तशस्त्रस्य (nyastaśastrasya) Ve.3.18; so प्राणान् न्यस्यति (prāṇān nyasyati) &c.
3) To put in, place within, place or put down upon anything (with loc.); शिरस्याज्ञा न्यस्ता (śirasyājñā nyastā) Amaruśataka 82; चित्रन्यस्त (citranyasta) 'committed to picture', V.1.4; स्तनन्यस्तोशीरं (stananyastośīraṃ) Ś.3.8 'applied'; अयोग्ये न मद्विधो न्यस्यति भारतग्र्यम् (ayogye na madvidho nyasyati bhāratagryam) Bhaṭṭikāvya 1.22; Meghadūta 61.
4) To entrust, consign, commit to the care of, deliver; अहमपि तव सूनौ न्यस्तराज्यः (ahamapi tava sūnau nyastarājyaḥ) V.5.17; भ्रातरि न्यस्य माम् (bhrātari nyasya mām) Bk. 5.82.
5) To give to, confer or bestow upon; रामे श्रीर्न्य- स्यतामिति (rāme śrīrnya- syatāmiti) R.12.2.
6) To state, bring forward, adduce, propound (as an argument); अर्थान्तरं न्यस्यति (arthāntaraṃ nyasyati) Malli. on Śiśupālavadha 1.17.
