Kṛttikā (कृत्तिका):—[Die Uṇādi-Affixe 3, 145.] f. pl. Name eines Sternbildes, die Plejaden; bilden in der älteren Zeit das erste, in der späteren das dritte Mondhaus und haben Agni zum Regenten. Das aus sechs Sternen best. Sternbild wird bald als Flamme ( [KĀLIDĀSA im Śabdakalpadruma]), bald als Scheermesser ([Śabdakalpadruma] ohne Angabe einer Aut.) dargestellt. 1) Pl. und (später) Sg. die Plejaden (in der älteren Zeit das erste , später des dritte Mondhaus ). Die sechs Plejaden personif. sind die Ammen Skanda's. kṛttikānāmāśramaḥ eine best. Einsiedelei. adva kṛttikā so v.a. heute steht der Mond in der Plejaden. kṛttikāmāghayostīrtham ein best. Tīrtha. kṛttikāṅgārake zur Zeit der Vereinigung des Mars mit den Plejaden.
