Source: Wisdom Library: Nāṭya-śāstraKaṭirecaka (कटिरेचक, “movement of the waist”) refers to the second of the four recakas (‘ornamental movement’, movement of a limb), according to the Nāṭyaśāstra 4.246-252. The instructions for the kaṭi-recaka is as follows, “Raising up the Trika and the turning of the waist as well as its drawing back, is called the Kaṭi-recaka.”.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
