Source: What is India: Inscriptions of the ŚilāhārasKandalamūlīya (कन्दलमूलीय) refers to a village mentioned in the Paṭṭaṇakuḍi plates of Avasara II. Accordingly, “I have, besides, assigned a gadiyāṇa of gold from every vessel coming from foreign lands, and a dharaṇa of gold from every ship coming from Kandalamūlīya with the exception of Cemūlya and Candrapura and also families of deva-dāsīs, a family of oilmen, a family of gardeners, a family of potters, a family of washermen and also land for the courtyard (of the temple) within the fort”.
These copper plates (mentioning Kandalamūlīya) were found by a Brāhmaṇa of Khārepāṭan, a town in the Devagaḍ tālukā of the Ratnāgiri District. The inscription refers itself to the reign of the Śilāra king, Māṇḍalika Raṭṭarāja. As his predecessors were loyal feudatories of the Rāṣṭrakūṭas, it gives first the genealogy of that family from Dantidurga to Kakkala. The inscription is dated, in lines 41-42, on the full-moon tithi of Jyeṣṭha in the śaka year 930, the cyclic year being Kīlaka.
