Auf eine Wurzel ghar glühen, brennen sind gharma, ghṛṇa, ghṛṇi, āghṛṇi, ghraṃs, ghraṃsa zurückzuführen. Im Slawischen stellen sich zu dieser Wurzel: горѣти ardere, грѣти calefacere, горькъ amarus, жаръ Hitze, жара Sommerhitze und wohl auch грѣхъ peccatum (das Gewissen brennend), welches [MIKLOSICH] (die Wurzeln des Altslovenischen, [S. 21]) mit Unrecht auf garh zurückführt, da ha und х sich nicht zu entsprechen pflegen.
