Gardhin (गर्धिन्):—(von gardh) adj. gierig, heftig verlangend nach, am Ende eines comp.: (agnayaḥ) navānnāmiṣagardhinaḥ [Manu’s Gesetzbuch 4, 28.] sumahajjaya [Mahābhārata 3, 16448.] putra [Rāmāyaṇa 2, 37, 31. 38, 17. 58, 21. 64, 34.] jaya [3, 29, 14.] Statt gardhin erscheint im [Mahābhārata] fast regelmässig gṛddhin, eine Form, welche auf gṛddha zuruckgeführt werden musste, aber wohl schwerlich richtig ist. gadhin verstiesse gegen Grammatik und Metrum; am nächsten stände gṛdhyin, welches sich auch grammatisch rechtfertigen lässt. māṃsagṛddhinaḥ [1, 2948 ] (v. l. gardhinaḥ). [13, 5680.] putra [1, 4146. 4148. 4743. 8445. 2, 723. 3, 10081. 12430. 13853. 12, 34. 13, 1876. 14, 2009. 15, 792.] rājya [3, 12426.] rāja [14925.] raṇa [13, 3159.] putragṛddhitva [5, 2591.] karmagṛddhinī mit Eifer einem Geschäft nachgehend [Harivaṃśa 3406.] Nicht richtiger ist die Form gṛdhninī [Rāmāyaṇa 2, 79, 12.] Statt kravyagandhibhiḥ [Kathāsaritsāgara 12, 48] ist wohl gardhibhiḥ zu lesen.
