Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationGālidāna (गालिदान) refers to the “utterance of foul abusive words” [?], according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.53 (“Description of Śiva’s return journey”).—Accordingly, as Brahmā narrated to Nārada: “[The mountain] seated all of us, including the gods, the sages and others in the altar. The lord of mountains was assisted by his kinsmen. [...] The mountain satiated them with various kinds of juicy foodstuffs. All of them took food including Śiva, Viṣṇu and me. Then the ladies of the city indulged in the customary utterance of foul abusive words (gālidāna) [gālīdānamvyadhurmudā] laughing, jingling and peeping at all of them. [...]”.
