Sie wird durch die Benennung Veda den eigentlichen heiligen Büchern und Wissenschaften beigeordnet und als Supplement des [Atharvavedasaṃhitā] betrachtet, [Suśruta 1, 1, 12. 15.] Sie zerfällt in acht Hauptfächer:
1) Śalya, Chirurgie;
2) Śālākya, die Lehre von den Krankheiten des Kopfs und seiner Organe;
3) Kāyacikitsā, die Behandlung der Krankheiten, welche den ganzen Leib afficiren;
4) Bhūtavidyā, die Heilung der Seelenkrankheiten, die auf dämonischen Einflüssen beruhend gedacht werden;
5) Kaumārabhṛtya, Behandlung der Kinder;
6) Agadatantra, die Lehre von den Gegengiften;
7) Rāsāyanatantra, die Lehre von den Elixiren;
