by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 67.62

अम्बां मे गत्वा पृच्छाहि सा ते तं व्याकरिष्यति ॥ ६२ ॥

ambāṃ me gatvā pṛcchāhi sā te taṃ vyākariṣyati || 62 ||

“I do not know the reason for it nor why it should be so. Go to my mother and ask her. She will explain it to you.” (62)
