by Émile Senart | 1882 | 56,574 words

This is the Sanskrit Mahavastu: a lengthy work on Buddhist teachings and narratives belonging to the school of early Buddhism (Mahasanghika). This edition only includes those metrical verses occuring in the various stories and Jatakas, as well as the corresponding English translation by J. J. Jones.

Verse 37.17

अहं च शक्रो त्रिदशान ईश्वरो अयं च सो पंचशिखो + + + ति ॥ १७ ॥

candro ca sūryo ca ihāgatā te ayaṃ ca so mātali devasārathiḥ |
ahaṃ ca śakro tridaśāna īśvaro ayaṃ ca so paṃcaśikho + + + ti || 17 ||

Candra and Surya, they are here, and this one is Matali, the charioteer of the devas. I am Shakra, the lord of the Three-and-Thirty devas. And this one here is Pancashikha. (17)
